The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) defines information literacy as "The ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively and responsibly use and share that information for the problem at hand" as adopted from the National Forum on Information Literacy.

Critical Thinking and Information Literacy (CTIL) is currently embedded in the Explorations area of the undergraduate Core Curriculum at USD under Historical Inquiry.

Propose a course
The transition from the embedded model for CTIL to flagged courses for both Information Literacy (CILT) and Critical Thinking (CCTC) will begin in Fall 2025. Faculty who wish to propose a course for either flag should see this page on the Core Curriculum Committee website.
