History: Research Paper Basics 2024: Finding Books and Reference Materials

This guide is designed to help history students successfully complete their next research paper assignment

Top Three Places to find Books:

1. Our Catalog: Search our catalog for a variety of resources on your topic including books; use the "request it" button to place a hold on a book and we will notify you when its available for pick up.

2. The Circuit: Search millions of titles from libraries across San Diego and have them sent to Copley in 3-5 business days.

3. ILL: Search catalog known as WorldCat to find books that are not available from Copley or SD Circuit. Request them via our Inter-Library Loan Service. Books typically arrive in 1-2 weeks.

Examples of reference materials include: dictionaries, encyclopedias, indexes and maps. Generally, you can think of reference materials as resources that direct you to other resources.
