Instruction Opportunities for Faculty, Staff, and Students

As the Knauss School of Business librarian, I'm available to visit your class for Copley Library presentations. These presentations can be in the form of:

1) Assignment-specific presentation on Copley Library resources, searching tips, and/or a specific database demonstration.

2)  Online Library Tour where I give a general introduction to the Copley Library's website including business databases, business subscription journals and other periodicals, and Copley Library services such as InterLibrary Loan and San Diego Circuit. 

3) In-person Library Tour is an opportunity for students and/or faculty to learn about the Copley Library's physical spaces and collections. 

4) In-class Workshops: I can visit your class to give a workshop on the topics below.

To request a presentation or workshop for your class, feel free to email me at jbidwell@sandiego.edu. I will make every effort to accommodate your request. Please email me your request at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time.

Assignment-specific presentation 30-60 min

This presentation can be tailored to your class's assignment. During this session, I will discuss:

1) Introduction to the Copley Library's website

2) Search tips and strategies and evaluating sources for credibility

3) Demonstrate 1-2 subscription databases and briefly discuss citations.

4) In-class learning activity for the students to explore the databases for their topic.

Online Library Tour

This is a brief introduction of the Copley Library's website and online resources including a look at:

  • Business Databases
  • Business Journals
  • Interlibrary Loan (library service)

Library Tour 30 min

On this tour, we will explore all of the Copley Library's spaces, equipment, and collections.

Introducing Bloomberg Terminals Workshop 40-50 min.

This workshop, held in KCBE 314, is designed to introduce new users to the Bloomberg Terminal. It will include creating an Bloomberg account, how to search the Terminal, and how to ask for help from Bloomberg.

APA Citation (7th Ed.): References Workshop 30-40 min

This workshop is available in your class or as a separate workshop for your students. We will discuss the purpose of citation and how to cite an article and a book.

APA Citation (7th Ed.): In-Text Citations Workshop 30-40 min

This workshop is available in your class or as a separate workshop for your students. We will discuss works credited in the text (i.e., in-text citations).

Business Research 101 Workshop 40-50 min.

This workshop will provide students with overview of business research with a focus on company and industry research. Using Google Scholar in your research will be discussed as well.

Selecting Credible Sources 30-40 min

This workshop will discuss evaluating sources for credibility. Various checklists will be discussed by the focus will be using the CRAAP (Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose) Test. Students will work on an activity comparing Wikipedia and Investopedia.
